USDC is a digital dollar issued by Circle: 1 USDC is designed to be redeemable for 1 US dollar. On Solana, a USDC transfer usually lands in seconds and costs a fraction of a cent, which makes it popular for paying people and moving money between exchanges.
Before you start: you still need a little SOL
Every Solana transaction is paid in SOL, even when you’re sending USDC. Keep a small amount of SOL in the wallet. If the person you’re paying has never held USDC before, your wallet also pays a small one-time deposit to create their USDC account. That’s normal.
1. Get USDC
- Buy it on an exchange and withdraw on the Solana network.
- Swap SOL for USDC inside Phantom or Solflare.
2. Send it
- In your wallet, tap USDC → Send.
- Paste the recipient’s Solana address. Copy-paste only; check the first and last 4 characters.
- Enter the amount, review, confirm.
- First time paying someone? Send a small test amount first.
The mistake that loses money: the wrong network
USDC exists on many networks (Solana, Ethereum, Base, Polygon…). An exchange may show several “USDC” deposit options. Sending on one network to an address expecting another can mean lost or stuck funds.
- Withdrawing from an exchange to your Solana wallet: pick Solana.
- Depositing to an exchange: use the deposit address the exchange shows for the Solana network.
Fake USDC
Scammers create tokens named “USDC” with fake logos. Real USDC on Solana is issued by Circle; your wallet marks it as verified. If someone pays you in a USDC you can’t swap or that your wallet flags, treat it as worthless.
Is USDC risk-free?
No. It depends on Circle holding reserves and on regulators. It’s designed to stay at $1, not guaranteed. And it’s not insured like a bank deposit.
