What to Do With Your SOL: 4 Real Uses
Some links are affiliate links: if you sign up through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Not financial advice.
You have SOL in your wallet. Here are real uses, with the upside and downside of each.
1. Send money fast
A Solana transfer arrives in seconds and costs a fraction of a cent, anywhere in the world. Many people send USDC (a digital dollar) instead of SOL so the amount doesn’t change value in transit. Remember to keep some SOL for the fee.
2. Switch to digital dollars
If you don’t want SOL’s volatility, swap it for USDC with your wallet’s Swap feature. Note: USDC is issued by a company (Circle) and depends on it.
3. Staking
You can “delegate” your SOL to a network validator and receive periodic rewards. It’s done from Solflare or Phantom.
- Your SOL stays in your wallet but is locked while staked; unstaking takes a few days.
- Rewards aren’t guaranteed, and SOL’s price can fall more than you earn.
4. Hold it
Many people just hold SOL long term. If you do that with a meaningful amount, consider a hardware wallet; we cover it in how to protect your seed phrase.
None of this is financial advice. SOL can move a lot in a short time.
