Best Crypto Apps in Canada (2026): Registered Platforms Compared

In Canada, the “best” crypto app is first of all a registered one. Platforms that serve Canadians must be authorized by provincial securities regulators, and several big global exchanges left rather than register. Below are the apps we’d look at first, ranked for a typical beginner who wants to buy a few coins and later move them to a wallet they control.
Before you deposit, look the platform up on the CSA's list of authorized crypto trading platforms. Fees, coins and funding methods change; confirm them on each platform's site.
The ranking at a glance
| # | App | Best for | Sells SOL | Registration (from the company’s own site, October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kraken | Lower costs on Kraken Pro, wide coin choice | Yes | Restricted Dealer with the OSC and the securities regulators in each province and territory |
| 2 | Coinbase | Simplest first purchase | Yes | Restricted Dealer in all provinces and territories |
| 3 | Crypto.com | All-in-one app, card and rewards ecosystem | Check in the app | Foris DAX CAN ULC, registered as a Restricted Dealer |
| 4 | Wealthsimple | People who already invest with Wealthsimple | Yes | Wealthsimple Investments Inc., a CIRO member |
| — | Shakepay | Bitcoin or Ether only | No | Check the CSA list |
1. Kraken: best overall for most buyers
Kraken has two faces: a simple app for quick buys and Kraken Pro, a trading screen where you can place limit orders. That second screen is usually the cheaper way to buy once you’re past your first small purchase.
Kraken’s support pages list e-Transfer, domestic wire and debit card among CAD deposit options (as of October 2026). Check current deposit options and the fee schedule before you fund.
At the time of writing, Kraken’s referral screen shows up to CA$350 for new customers in eligible regions who deposit at least CA$200 and trade at least CA$200 (terms apply; check the offer on sign-up). Full review: Kraken Canada review.
2. Coinbase: easiest for a first purchase
Coinbase’s app is the most beginner-proof of the group. Its Canadian site says you can add cash with Interac e-Transfer or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), or buy with PayPal (as of October 2026). The simple Buy button costs more than Coinbase Advanced, so switch screens for bigger buys and read the fee page.
At the time of writing, new customers in Canada get CA$30 in Bitcoin after a first purchase of CA$30 or more (terms apply; check the offer on sign-up). Full review: Coinbase Canada review.
3. Crypto.com: one app for many things
Crypto.com bundles buying, a card program, rewards and its own CRO token in one app. Its Canadian page mentions instant CAD deposits by Interac e-Transfer and Apple/Google Pay (as of October 2026). The app is busy, and prices include a spread, so compare the final amount before you confirm.
At the time of writing, eligible new users can get a welcome bonus of up to US$50 in CRO (conditions apply). Full review: Crypto.com review.
4. Wealthsimple: crypto next to your other investments
If you already hold a TFSA or RRSP at Wealthsimple, its crypto account sits in the same app. Wealthsimple says it offers BTC, ETH, SOL and 170+ other coins, and that transfers let you move crypto to or from Wealthsimple. It doesn’t show a fee table the way an exchange does, so review its pricing page for how crypto trades are priced.
Alternative: Shakepay (Bitcoin and Ether only)
Shakepay is popular in Canada for its simplicity, but as of this writing it only sells Bitcoin and Ether. If you want SOL or other coins, pick one of the apps above.
Pros and cons
| App | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Kraken | Pro screen with limit orders; wide coin choice; e-Transfer deposits | Two interfaces can confuse beginners |
| Coinbase | Very simple app; Interac e-Transfer, EFT and PayPal | Simple Buy button costs more than Advanced |
| Crypto.com | Many features in one app; Interac e-Transfer | Cluttered; spread on app purchases |
| Wealthsimple | Same app as your other accounts | Fewer trading tools; pricing built into the trade |
| Shakepay | Very simple | BTC and ETH only |
How sign-up works on any of them
- Download the official app (from the company’s site, not a search ad).
- Enter your details and verify your identity with government photo ID; you may be asked for proof of address.
- Answer the short knowledge questionnaire. Canadian platforms have to apply purchase limits to some coins for non-”eligible” investors.
- Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app.
- Fund your account and make a small first purchase.
After you buy: move it to your own wallet
An exchange account is fine for buying. For holding, use a wallet where you control the recovery phrase. Create a Solana wallet, copy its address, withdraw on the Solana network, and send a small test first. For larger amounts, see our best hardware wallets for Solana.
